Gardening Tips from the Allotment Group

June 15, 2020

Having a garden in full bloom with beautiful plants and flowers is something we all would love, however for many it can seem like a whole lot of effort. Knowing which plants to grow, what soil is best and when to sow seeds can be confusing, putting people off.

Piegeons

May 4, 2020

I know a lot of plots, mine included have been battling with pigeons for the last two seasons. My brassicas were devastated last year and this year they have barely survived-despite my feeble attempts at netting them!! Some plotties have created bird scarers by hanging old CDs up or tying bits of plastic bag so that they blow in the wind. A couple of plots have some very smart looking scarecrows which seem to be doing the trick.

Rabbits

April 4, 2020

There have been a few sightings of Rabbits on the plots this year. Our Chairman Charlie has procured some chicken wire and has been working to ensure there are no gaps at the gates. Hopefully this will prevent Peter and his pals from snacking on our crops!!
